Professor Simpson is the George Harrison Law Chair of Orthopaedics at the University of Edinburgh, and Editor-in-Chief of the Bone and Joint Research Journal. His department places emphasis on strong links between clinical, biological and bioengineering disciplines in which basic sciences link closely with the clinical research facilities at the elective, trauma and paediatric orthopaedic sites. The Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering Collaboration (MTEC) has become a world leader in translational stem-cell research. Aside from overseeing the widespread activities of his unit, his particular research interests include, molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in mechano-transduction; action of ageing, obesity and bisphosphonates on bone; stem cell derived therapies; and clinical trials.
